Zipeng Zhu

Meet the artist

Zipeng Zhu’s design work is relentlessly intense - in the most fun way possible.

(If you have epilepsy, Evermade advises you not to search Zipeng Zhu's website or typefaces as flashing images and colours may occur.)

We've been lucky enough to join up with Zipeng for our latest print series, Rainbow of Hope, to create a print inspired by the rainbow. Check out his original piece below - it's available for purchase now with 100% of the profits going to NHS Charities Together.

The work of Zipeng Zhu, also delightfully known as Mr. Dazzle, is all about full-on colour, fluorescent animations, and funny puns. The Chinese born, New York-based artist is on a personal mission to “make everyday a razzle-dazzle musical,” and you'll catch us sitting in the first row at the matinee, early evening, and midnight showing.

After landing a position at lauded design company Sagmeister & Walsh directly after graduating, Mr. Dazzle launched his eponymous studio, Dazzle, in 2016 - and took the design world by storm. Under the Dazzle name, Zipeng has exhibited globally and created work for Coca-Cola, Netflix, Microsoft, and Adidas. Plus, he’s produced some of our all-time favourite typeface-gif hybrids - including the frenzied, flashing font, Electrica, and a magically mobile typeface for the Museum of the Moving Image. Even lockdown hasn’t slowed Zhu’s energetic workflow; his most recent design - encouraging people to wash their hands - has just been scaled up to billboard size in Times Square. After all, work this bold befits the biggest of screens.

Zipeng Zhu is fast-becoming a mainstay in both the New York and global design scene - and he's doing it through a sense of euphoria and humour. Mr. Dazzle's work is, above all else, fun.

That I get to block out all distractions (aka Grindr) and focus on work, which gives me so much extra energy!

What are you looking forward to most when the lockdown is over?

See my BFF and give her a huge hug.

What’s your message to health workers right now?

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Y'all are the true superheroes!

True to form, Zipeng's latest artwork - a collaboration with Evermade for our Rainbow of Hope Edition - is a spectacle of spiralling colour, bold patterning, and emojis. With this artwork, Zipeng encourages us all to: "Release your inner pride and burst them out to the world!" Titled Burst of Pride, this rainbow design delivers some much-needed optimism and Zipeng's signature "razzle-dazzle" flair.

Zipeng's limited edition print, Burst of Pride, is available for purchase right now - with 100% of the profits going to NHS Charities Together.
