For the very first time, illustrator Jenni Sparks has drawn Seoul (서울), bringing her signature hand-drawn map series to South Korea’s extraordinary capital. Following her best-selling maps of London, New York, Paris, Berlin and Sydney, this latest release charts the beating heart of one of Asia’s most dynamic cities.

From Gangnam-gu to Songpa-gu, Jamsil and Gangdong, this is a vibrant portrait of Seoul. The Han River (한강) runs through its centre, crossed by landmark bridges such as Jamsildaegyo and Olympicdaegyo, while neighbourhoods on both sides are brought to life with meticulous illustration.

Meticulously detailed

Months of planning, research and drawing have gone into this map. Seoul’s architectural icons are carefully rendered: from Lotte World Tower (롯데월드타워) and Olympic Stadium to Garak Market and COEX Mall. Historical sites such as the Royal Tombs of Seolleung (선릉) sit alongside modern landmarks like Jamsil Lotte Mall and Lotte World.

Everyday culture

The map doesn’t stop at the obvious landmarks. Jenni has illustrated the real Seoul experience: bowls of jjigae and mandu, quirky cafés, Hoppy Duck brewery, burger joints, and late-night barbecue restaurants. Parks like Dogok Park, Maru Park, and Irwon Eco Park appear in lush greens, balanced against the dense skyline of apartments, schools and shopping streets.

True sense of place

Designed around Seoul’s subway lines, the map gives an accurate feel for how the city connects across the Han River. Unlike a transit diagram, this is a true-to-life cultural portrait: showing the distance between stations, the districts they anchor, and the distinctive personalities of each neighbourhood.

Layers of history

Look closely and you’ll find ancient and modern Seoul side by side: fortress walls, tombs and museums illustrated alongside department stores, sports centres and karaoke rooms. It’s both a practical orientation tool and an art print that tells the story of Seoul today.

Collaboration

Made in collaboration with Jaewoo of Seochon Life (서촌라이프 설재우), whose local research helped highlight hidden neighbourhood details. His contribution adds depth to this edition, while the Seoul map joins Jenni and Evermade’s long-running hand-drawn map series, now in its 13th year.
