Steffi Lynn | A Decade of Change Artist Interview

Don't Let the Past Ruin the Present, Steffi Lynn

Hi Steffi! Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am an illustrator/letterer/muralist! I have always been intrigued in all the different wants we can create with our mind, thoughts and hands. Starting young, I was immersed with plenty of different creative fields. From photography to dance and sewing to painting. At the end of it all, I was drawn to letters and words and how I can create little reminders for people who need them.

What, or who, influence your creative style and/or ethos?

Sounds a little corny, but I think just everyday people and things influence me. I am drawn to emotions and nature. Most of my work stems from how people are feeling, how I am feeling and mother earth.

What is something that we wouldn’t know about you?

I hate pickles and being a neurosurgeon is my dream job.

What is your biggest art pet peeve, and why?

Imperfect shapes from cutting. Like collaging!! I know many artists who work in that style and they are so great at it but its just something I can't do at all. I would be so frustrated with the jagged shapes.

What are you most excited about at the moment?

I am excited for my mid 20's!!! I am terrified of getting older because I feel like it makes people more irrelevant in an industry that moves so fast. But I just turned 25 and I am so excited to create more with my experiences as a freelancer the last few years!

Let’s talk more about A Decade of Change. What drew you to collaborate with us on this project?

Because of how social media basically just out highlight reel, most people think I am just a happy positive person all the time. And trust me, that is so not true. Reflecting on my life in the past 10 years, there has been so many struggles in my personal life and I have been through hell and back. But I look at how I am now, and I don't regret one experience. Its amazing how strong we are,how we can overcome horrible situations and still be standing, smiling.

What’s the message behind your piece in the collection, and what does it mean to you? What would you like to change over the new decade?

Just keep going! Things are temporary and it will past. Live in the moment and just know that we are amazing and to absorb as much as we can in the moment and not dwell on the past.

Lastly, if you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Read minds.
