Rachel Denti

Meet the artist

Rachel Denti’s endlessly relatable work features feminism, emojis, and the daily anxieties of a designer.

We collaborated with Rachel on a print inspired by the rainbow as part of our new series, Rainbow of Hope. You can purchase Rachel's limited edition artwork now - 100% of the profits will be donated to NHS Charities Together.

It’s rare to log into Instagram and find all of your day-to-day grievances, self-isolation struggles, and work at home worries expressed in an emoji. But Rachel Denti and &Walsh, the creative agency she's a part of, have created a range of emojis that do just that - we’ve been using them pretty much non-stop ever since. The emoji range primarily pokes fun at the woes all graphic designers face on the daily, but this is no new process for Rachel. The New York-based illustrator has been perfectly capturing the nuances of anxiety since her 2015 pastel zine, Everyday Thoughts On Everyday Things. While her work still features highly relatable jokes and slogans around insecurities and work, to categorise the artist solely through these images would do her a disservice. Denti’s complete body of work holds all manner of design delights.

From graphic designs featuring acidic airbrushing and sharp typography to bold lined cartoon forms, the Brazilian artist has stamped her illustrative trademark on all manner of commissions - including a recent artwork made with us at Evermade. For the rest of 2020, we’re eager to see what Denti does next.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Colourful & awkward smiles

What’s in your art toolkit?

Wine, loud music, and a messy notebook.

Who was on your playlist whilst working on this project?

My gloomy playlist, perfect for lockdown gloomy days:

Who are some artists you really admire at the moment?

Max Loeffler, Lee Soojin, Derek Ercolano, Braulio Amado. I've been really into airbrush texturing!

What are the positives you have come across during lockdown? How do you think it will change your point of view in the future?

I'm probably never again wearing anything that isn't baggy

What are you looking forward to most when the lockdown is over?

Enjoying the sun, either on the beach or in a day time party.

What’s your message to health workers right now?

Thank you so much for your courage and hard work. And shout out to my mom who's a nurse working on the frontline in Brazil too!

For her recent artwork, Denti is using her superpower for capturing everyone's deep-down insecurities for good, by capturing the hope that can be found deep within us all this lockdown. The new contemplative artwork for our Rainbow of Hope series, titled Look Within, incorporates a mirror, a rainbow, and stunning use of type. When we spoke to Rachel about her thinking behind the print, she said she wanted to convey that “the answers we search for are sometimes somewhere much closer than where we're looking at." Look Within carries an inward-looking sentiment sure to ease the daily slog of lockdown for any onlooker.

Rachel's artwork is available for purchase now at the link below, with 100% of profits going to NHS Charities Together.
