Mireia Ruiz

EARTH HOUR ARTIST INTERVIEW

Tell us about yourself?

Mireia Ruiz, 1983. I am an artist who lives and works in Barcelona. I studied Graphic Design and worked as a designer in my own creative studio. My true passion however, are color, painting and canvas. Today I teach Creativity and Set design at the IDEP Institute in Barcelona.

The synthesis of shapes and the deep study of color define my work. The series of paintings and collages created by irregular figures portray my imaginary landscapes, where space, sun, lines and mountains are recurring elements. The attractive simplicity of the shapes accentuates the color palette with the intention to create compositional balance.

These shapes dance with each other, multiply and associate through color to create compositions whose simplicity is essential

for their charm.

What’s the title of your art piece?

“Save the bees”

What’s the meaning/thinking behind your art piece?

My thought to incorporate the bees in this work, was because they are a tiny but essential part of the environment. Unfortunately they are victims of the human tyranny. It is an homage to their work and importance on our planet.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Color, lines and positivism

Who's on your playlist while working on this project?

Kalahari – Take/Five, Curfew

Where & what will you be doing at this year’s Earth Hour on 28th March 2020?

I would like to dedicate this day to nature, maybe at the beach or in the mountains, helping to cleanup, recollecting the trash that people threw away in these areas.

If you could change one thing in this world, what would it be and why?

I would love to change the thinking of all human beings supporting nature and trying to be not cruel with our human plague.
