Bárbara Malagoli

Meet the artist

Through fluid forms, airy textures, and risograph, Bárbara Malagoli makes light work out of weighty themes.

Here at Evermade, we’re lucky to be collaborating with Bárbara once more for our new series of prints titled Rainbow of Hope. Scroll down to discover Bárbara’s rainbow-inspired print - with 100% of profits being donated to NHS Charities Together.

London-based illustrator Bárbara Malagoli has never been one to shy away from life’s complexities. Throughout her work, she has tackled ideas around mysticism, identity, feminism, and female sexuality all through her bold, sensual, and occasionally ethereal lens. Her airbrushed images are mainly composed of abstract icons and symbols - female outlines, astrology, altars, and nature all feature frequently and hark to her fascination with otherworldly symbolism. In fact, one of our favourite Malagoli offerings to date is a series illustrating every star sign in the horoscope calendar - each one cast in golden peach hues and risograph.

This year, the Brazilian-Italian illustrator continues to move from collaborative strength to strength. In February, Bárbara designed the Oscar Edition cover for the LA Times - rendering iconic titles like Parasite and Marriage Story - and in March, she produced the heavenly artwork accompanying Nike’s new Air Max Verona release. With such a heap of illustrative fruits birthed only halfway through the year, we’re excited to see what Bárbara offers up in the coming astrological seasons.

Who was on your playlist whilst working on this project?

I have "wasted" a lot of time creating some playlists and covers for a series called "Quarentunes" on Spotify. The first one is called Focus Pocus and the next one will be based on Animal Crossing lol. It's been a great exercise to create unpretentious arts and select some tunes.

Who are some artists you really admire at the moment?

I guess the cartoonist Simon Hanselmann. He is bringing everyone together with his daily comics on his Instagram account. I love his work so much!

What are the positives you have come across during lockdown? And how do you think it will change your point of view in the future?

I feel that the perception of time has changed a lot and a sense of anxiety, in general, has subsided within me and some people around me. Many important questions are being asked and priorities are being revisited. I hope this changes how we see our work, time, and our relation with consumption. May we allow ourselves to live more than just produce.

What are you looking forward to most when the lockdown is over?

Picnic in the park !!

What is your message to health workers right now?

THANK YOU SO F* MUCH!!!! * clap clap clap *

Bárbara is saying ‘thank you’ to the NHS in more ways than one. For Evermade’s newest Rainbow of Hope series - released in ode to our health workers - Bárbara has contributed an artwork using her trademark palette and soft symbolism. "Freedom is one of the greatest treasures we have,” the artist told us on the meaning behind her print, “in this moment we are going through, we must achieve freedom by depriving it, so soon we can fly again.” Summoning qualities of luminous light, Malagoli’s print offers us all a glimpse over the horizon.

Bárbara Malagoli’s limited edition artwork is titled Spiritual Freedom and is available for purchase below. There are only 100 prints available, with 100% of profits going to NHS Charities Together.
