Amelia Graham | Earth Hour Artist Interview

Tell us about yourself?

I’m a Textile Print designer working cross genre in fashion, the fine arts and design generally. I am a mother of two and am a lifelong Vegetarian.

What’s the title of your art piece?

2020

What’s the meaning/thinking behind your art piece?

I wanted to represent the dichotomy between the natural and man mad world by contrasting botanical and rigid forms, the symbiotic yet fractured nature of our relationship with the plant rendered in the sliced forms and earthy tones. The deep cadmium orange of the central circle course depicts the heating up of the planet as global temperatures rise.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Geometric, colourful, refined.

Who's on your playlist while working on this project?

Desert Island Discs.

Where & what will you be doing at this year’s Earth Hour on 28th March 2020?

I’ll be in my hometown Brighton,UK, talking to my little people by candle light.

If you could change one thing in this world, what would it be and why?

Where to start? Because the nearest thing I’ve ever felt quasi religious about is being a Vegetarian- I’d like plant based diets to be mandatory. One day I’d like to make the leap to Veganism, one day soon I hope! The meat and dairy industries impact on the planet is catastrophic and as we evolve as a populace I don’t think they are justifiable.
